Love and kindness

Another theme explored in the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is that of love and kindness. 

This theme is explored by looking at Katniss’s love for Prim. This is one of Katniss’s biggest motivations and it moves her to constantly protect her sister and to eventually volunteer to take her place in the Hunger Games. Similarly, it is Prim’s love for her sister that motivates Katniss to keep her promise to Prim and try her best to win the Games. In the arena, Katniss often thinks about Prim and tries not to give in to despair for the sake of her sister who is watching and hoping Katniss returns home.
