Part 1

The first three chapters of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World introduce the main characters of the text, such as Bernard Marx, the Director, Lenina Crowne and Helmholtz Watson. The reader learns about their roles in society, the tasks they have to fulfil and how the World State functions. The location is the Hatchery and Conditioning Center London.

Chapters 4 to 6 describe the difficult relationship between Lenina and Bernard. In these chapters the reader also learns that Bernard and Helmholtz no longer feel very comfortable in the World State and act more like outsiders. They want to change something in their current life situation, but this is hard, as they have to rebel against the authorities.
