Conflict

The short film “I Don’t Make the Rules” by Law Chen features two types of conflict.

The outer conflict is the one that is most noticeable in this film. The main outer conflict of the film breaks out after Stephen stops Nathan from going in the club because he does not respect the dress code. Nathan offers Stephen a bribe, but when Stephen rejects him by moving away his hand, Nathan reacts violently.  He begins to yell, telling Stephen not to touch him (03:35). After that, Nathan and his friends insult Stephen and try to humiliate him.

Another outer conflict is fuelled between Stephen and Carl. As he tries to get the job, Stephen impersonates a security guard to try to make Carl leave. When Carl protests, the situation becomes tense, and Stephen warns Carl that he will have to physically remove...
