Framing

Framing refers to the way images are filmed and put together in a film, focusing on the way the scenes are shot, and where and on what the camera is focusing. 

The short film “I Don’t Make the Rules” by Law Chen mainly features medium shots. These shots show only a part of the setting and usually frame the characters’ upper body. They are commonly employed in films and are considered a standard shot because they enable the audience to view both the background and the characters’ expressions and body language. In “I Don’t Make the Rules”, these shots are mainly filmed at an eye-level angle, offering a natural point of view for the audience, and are employed especially when various characters need to appear in the same frame, as in the nightclub scene (04:06).
