Summary

The short story “Champagne Flight” by Jill Norris follows the narrator during her first airplane journey. The narrator is 16 but wants to appear older, both in appearance and behavior. This is why she orders red wine during her flight. She is eventually joined by a woman, Serena Sinclair, who orders champagne for the both of them. Serena does not eat her lunch but takes a pill with her champagne. 

The narrator and Serena talk about their lives. The narrator tells Serena she has a job in Washington, although she is still in school. Serena tells the narrator that she is celebrating getting a new job in Chicago. She talks about her job in vague terms and begins to sing at one point, so the narrator assumes she is a singer. Serena asks the narrator to go with her...
