Narrator and point of view

The short story “The Recital” by Eimear Ryan is a first person-narrative told by Grace, the protagonist of the story.

The narrator presents the events from her limited-knowledge point of view, which implies that we only know what the narrator knows or finds out about the characters. For example, the narrator can make assumptions about her sister based on her attitude, but she cannot know for sure why Jen acts the way she does: “She always insisted it was her choice, but I was sceptical; Ruán’s father was on tour in Asia, and there was no suggestion of him putting his career on hold.” (ll. 40-42)
