The rose

The Rose is an important character in the novella The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The rose has taken root one day on the little prince's planet from a seed that came there "from no one knew where" (26%). The little prince watches the sprout carefully make sure it will not grow into a baobab tree, and is delighted when a bud grows. 

Still, it takes a long time for the blossom to open, because the rose needs to get fully ready and show herself to the world only when she is at the height of her beauty: "It was only in the full radiance of her beauty that she wished to appear" (26%). Here we can already see the vanity of the rose, who wants to please at any cost.
