Repetitions

One of the most important stylistic devices in the novella The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is repetition. This means that a word or a sentence is mentioned several times. There can also be repetitions of content. Repetition has a reinforcing effect on the reader. The reader recognizes something and remembers it better.

The use of repetition becomes particularly clear in the questions or requests that the little prince asks or makes. The little prince never allows people to forget his questions until he has received an answer to them. This is already noticeable in the first encounter of the little prince with the pilot. 

The little prince asks the pilot a total of five times to draw him a sheep. On the other hand, he does not answer the questions that the pilot asks him. The little prince uses this tactic with most of the people he interacts with, including the businessman, for example, who initially does not want to answer the little prince's questions because he feels it disturbs his work.

Repetition also increases the intensity of the message and makes it more memorable. The little prince repeats the teachings of the fox in order to memorize them:

"Goodbye," said the fox. "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
