Reception

The Holocaust subject captivated John Boyne so much that he wanted to write a book about it. He explains after the publication of the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas that he wrote and finished the rough version of the book within two and a half days. Boyne wants it to be read primarily by a young audience, which is why he lists it on his website under the heading "Novels for Younger Readers".

Readers and literary critics generally received it positively. For this portrayal once again offers a completely different view of the Nazis' reign of terror.
