Narrative techniques

A third-person narrator guides the reader through the novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne from beginning to end. The narrator is omniscient and gives all the basic information about the plot and the characters, such as: "In fact he had heard her described on any number of occasions as being Trouble From Day One" (Chapter 3, 0%). 

The reader learns above all about the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Bruno, who is at the center of the action. "Seething with anger, Bruno went into the kitchen and got the biggest surprise of his life" (Chapter 15, 38%). Because Bruno is very honest, the narrator clearly expresses his likes and dislikes plainly. For example, the narrator reports that Bruno wants to make a list of reasons he dislikes Lie...
