Analysis

The novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne has many linguistic and stylistic features that make it unique. The novel is structured into 20 chapters and tells the story of a nine-year old boy who moves next to a concentration camp because his father is a Nazi commander. 

The plot unfolds dramatically and ends in a catastrophe , although one does not find the classic structure of a drama. A third-person narrator leads through the plot and describes the thoughts and feelings of the characters.

In the following analysis, all the characteristic features of the style and language of the text, as well as the structure of the novel, are explained and numerous textual examples are offered. Equally interesting are the narrator, narrative style, and time setting of this Holocaust novel, which will be discussed in detail below.
