Summary

The film The Riot Club directed by Lone Scherfig begins by presenting the origin of the Riot Club. Formed in the memory of Lord Riot, the Riot Club has a roster of ten men, all of whom take pride in their excessive wealth and hedonistic behavior.

In modern days, two men young men called Miles and Alistair start their first year at Oxford University. When Alistair receives a room that his parents do not approve of, Miles kindly offers to switch lodgings. He meets Lauren, another Oxford student, and they become attracted to each other. Although Lauren suggests they do not ruin their time at Oxford with a failed relationship, they nevertheless start a romantic relationship. Miles is forced to become tutorial partner with Alistair, who is arrogant and expresses his dissatisfaction with Miles and his left-leaning politics. 

Meanwhile, the current eight members of the Riot Club are looking for two more additions, wishing to maintain the traditional roster of ten men. Alistair meets Harry Villiers, a Riot Club member, who introduces him to Jeremy Villiers, his uncle and a successful Conservative MP, whom Alistair starts to admire. Harry also nominates Alistair to James Leighton-Masters, the president of the Riot Club, as one of its last two potential members...
