Miles Richards

Miles Richards is one of the main characters in the film The Riot Club (2014) directed by Lone Scherfig. He is a first-year student at Oxford University and comes from a family with aristocratic connections. This is revealed when Lauren finds his correspondence, where he is addressed with “the honorable”. This honorific style is usually used in the UK for the offspring of viscounts, barons, or earls. 

Miles has a younger brother who looks up to him and who also dreams of being an Oxford student one day. Miles begins a relationship with Lauren, another first-year student with a working-class background. He is politically left-leaning, which is one of the main sources of conflict between him and Alistair. 

From the first scenes, Miles comes across as friendly and outgoing, which attracts Lauren’s attention. Although he comes from a “posh” and aristocratic family, Miles wants to be seen as a normal guy. He is polite and kind to Alistair and offers to switch rooms with him when he realizes that the Ryles believe that the room is unsuitable for their son.
