Circumstances

Malala Yousafzai delivered her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech on the 10th of October, 2014, in Oslo, Norway. The Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes, a set of annual international awards established since 1901 by Swedish inventor, industrialist, and armament manufacturer Alfred Nobel. The other categories for which the Nobel Prize is awarded are Medicine, Literature, Chemistry, and Physics. The Peace Prize is the only Nobel Prize not presented in Stockholm, Sweden.

When she received the Nobel Peace Prize, Yousafzai became the youngest recipient of the award in history (p. 481, l. 16). Yousafzai received the prize for her advocacy efforts for children’s education and women’s rights.
