Structure

The short story “I See You Never” by Ray Bradbury has a linear plot structure. The story seems to be structured into two parts. The first one presents the final parting between Mr. Ramirez and Mrs. O’Brian, while the second presents its aftermath and the effect it has on Mrs. O’Brian. The story begins in medias res with a knock on Mrs. O’Brian’s kitchen door. Suspense is created by the mention of the two police officers surrounding Mr. Ramirez (p. 108, ll. 4-6), which leads readers to expect he is guilty of a crime.

The plot is chronological, but there are many flashbacks in which the characters remember past activities and places. One flashback mentions Mr. Ramirez coming to America more than two years ago and finding a job and accommodatio...
