The short story “I See You Never” by Ray Bradbury is written in a neutral style.
The narration does not use abbreviations, slang, or contractions, for instance: “The policemen did not touch him.” (p. 108, ll. 114-115). However, the vocabulary is not very advanced, using common words and phrases.
A large part of the narrative consists of descriptions of past events. They are presented using a nostalgic tone, which highlights their emotional significance for the character. For instance: “he had ridden the streetcars – all night some nights – smelling the electricity, his dark eyes moving over the advertisements, feeling the wheels rumble under him, watching the little sleeping houses and big hotels slip by” (p. 108, ll. 83-89).
