Literary perspective

The short story “Chicken Little Goes Too Far” by Margaret Atwood is a fable. 

The story has several elements which are often encountered in fables. For instance, the story takes place in an imaginary place, where the sky can actually fall. The time is also vague. This suggests that the events presented here are symbolic of current issues in the real world. 

The story also gives animals human traits and uses symbolism and irony to criticize human society. Even though there is no explicit moral lesson at the end of the story, we can realize that Chicken Little is supposed to be the protagonist of the story, while Hoggy Groggy is the antagonist.
