Intention

Kevin Powell’s main intention in the article “Why Do We Hate Immigrants?” is to criticize the current Trump administration’s treatment of immigrants. Powell argues that the current administration’s way of dealing with the migrant crisis is inhuman in various ways. First, he expresses his criticism towards politicians: “You can guess what it sounds like to my ears when I hear people—even some of our politicians—describe these immigrants in the most animalistic and anti-human ways” (ll. 36-38). Powell also mentions “racism” (l. 42), “bigotry” (l. 44), and “injustice” (l. 44) to describe the current administration’s attitudes towards immigrants.
