Summary
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie starts the TED talk “We Should All Be Feminists” by presenting some personal stories. She talks about a late childhood friend who was the first one to ever call Adichie a feminist when they were teenagers. Adichie recalls an event that occurred sometime later, while she was promoting one of her books in Nigeria. There, a journalist advised her not to call herself a feminist, as his opinion was that feminists were women unable to find husbands. Later on, a Nigerian academic told Adichie that feminism was not an African concept, which prompted Adichie to think about new definitions of feminism for herself.
