Intention

One of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s intentions with the TED talk “We Should All Be Feminists” is to persuade society to challenge traditional gender roles. She uses logos to point out that women are disadvantaged in the workplace because of their gender, while men climb the career ladder and earn better wages more easily. Then, Adichie uses rhetorical questions to invite the audience to reflect on the importance of challenging gender roles and changing society’s expectations of boys and girls. Lastly, Adichie’s direct address helps her show that both men and women are responsible for the current situation in African society and culture.
