The speaker of the “We Should All Be Feminists” TED talk is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a renowned Nigerian author. At the time the speech was delivered, Adichie had already won numerous prizes and awards, including the O. Henry Award, Reader's Digest Author of the Year Award, and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book. 

In her speech, Adichie makes several references and allusions to her writing career: “Now fast forward to some years later, I wrote a novel about a man who among other things beats his wife and whose story doesn't end very well. While I was promoting the novel in Nigeria…”. She also mentions one of her discussions with “an academic, a Nigerian woman”, a reference that hints at her academic accomplishments
