Analysis

The analysis of the short story “Nobody’s story” by Charles Dickens shows that the story follows a linear plot structure. The story presents the events surrounding a period in Nobody’s life in a chronological order.

The main characters of the story are Nobody and the Bigwig family. Nobody experiences life differently than the Bigwigs do - he is content with his life, though he wishes he could provide his children with a better future.

The physical setting is not clearly stated, but evidence from the text shows that it is somewhere in the United Kingdom. The focus of the story is on the social setting and the relationship between the lower and upper-class citizens.

The story is told by a 3rd-person omniscient narrator. The narrator offers insight into the thoughts and feelings of Nobody and has knowledge of future events.

The language of the story is formal, though at times the narrator does use Victorian jargon. The narrative uses contractions only in the dialogue.
