Short summary

In John Green’s novel, Looking for Alaska, 16-year-old Miles Halter transfers to Culver Creek boarding school at his own request. He wants to have an adventure and find his "Great Perhaps." At the boarding school, he quickly becomes friends with his roommate Chip Martin, who is called “the Colonel” by his friends.

Through the Colonel, Miles meets Alaska Young. Alaska is a very impulsive girl and Miles falls in love with her at first sight. Miles is fascinated by Alaska but is also overwhelmed by her moody nature. One day she talks philosophy with him, the next day she ignores him completely. She constantly flirts with Miles, but then immediately mentions her boyfriend who she is in love with. 

The group of three is joined by Takumi, a Japanese boy, and later Lara, a pretty girl from Romania. Alas...
