Physical setting

The physical setting of the novel Looking for Alaska by John Green is the fictional boarding school Culver Creek in Alabama, USA. This boarding school is 20 km away from the city of Birmingham. Most of the action takes place there. There are only a few changes of location, for example when the friends go to McDonalds or to Coosa Liquors to get alcohol or cigarettes.

The boarding school, Culver Creek, is strongly inspired by the real private boarding school, Indian Springs School, which the author himself attended. Miles’ is from Florida and John Green also grew up with his parents in sunny Orlando, Florida.
