Michelle Faul’s article “What Life Was Like In South Africa During Apartheid” was published in 2013 on the website of the American-based media, Business Insider. At the time, she was writing as a member of The Associated Press, a multinational, non-profit news agency also based in the US.

Consequently, the nature of the two forms of media suggests that the intended readers of the text are English-speaking people everywhere and Americans. Furthermore, as Business Insider mainly covers financial and business news, we can assume that the intended readership is also educated.
