Narrator and point of view

The short story “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” by Ernest Hemingway is told by a third-person narrator. The story is told from Harry’s perspective, with the exception of the ending, which is told from Helen’s perspective. 

Since most of the narrative is told from Harry’s perspective, it is -focused on Harry follows Harry’s stream of consciousness. For instance, the conversation between Harry and Helen is often interrupted by one of Harry’s flashbacks. There are also chunks of missing time in Harry’s perspective. For instance, at some point he falls asleep (p. 44, l. 3) and afterwards learns that Helen had gone shooting (p. 44, l. 9).
