Blackie

Blackie is the leader of the Wormsley Common gang and one of the main characters of the story “The Destructors” by Graham Greene. 

In contrast with Trevor’s commanding leadership style, Blackie’s style is more casual, suggesting operations for the gang to carry out each day, such as taking buses without paying and letting the gang vote on them. He views Mr. Thomas’ kindness to the boys as a bribe which he wishes to retaliate against, yet his revenge is mild, worthy of young troublemakers: bouncing a ball against Mr. Thomas’ wall to annoy him. Under his leadership, the gang is mischievous but youthful, compared to the serious destruction it brings under Trevor’s guidance. 

Blackie also takes his job as a leader seriously, showing that he feels responsible for his gang and wishes to protect it: “as the leader he had responsibilities”....
