Narrator and point of view

The short story “The Arrangers of Marriage” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is told from the point of view of a first-person narrator who is also the main character. 

The narrator takes part in the events while she comments on different aspects of her new life and the American customs and surroundings. The narrator offers clear and precise descriptions of the things she sees, for example when Ofodile shows her the city. The descriptions are mixed with the narrator’s personal observations, as she contrasts her new life with her former experiences in Nigeria:
