The language in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s short story “The Arrangers of Marriage” is neutral

The author uses several Nigerian words both for the dialogue and inside the narration. Words such as egusi, onugbu, Ike agwum, uziza seeds make the story feel more authentic. 

The narration also has several descriptive words like “old”, “musty”, “clammy”, “sweaty”, “noisy.” These words highlight an uncomfortable and claustrophobic feeling. This is how Chinaza feels because she has to fit into the American lifestyle, adopt American customs, and live in a city that she does not like.
