Outer characterization

Ofodile Udenwa is another character in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s short story “The Arrangers of Marriage”. He is a Nigerian-born man who lives in America. Ofodile works as an intern, although he claims he will become an attending physician soon. He lives in a small apartment and drives an old car. Ofodile changed his name to Dave Bell to fit in. When he arrived in America, he married a woman for a Green Card. He is now in the process of divorcing her. His marriage to Chinaza was arranged by his mother and Chinaza’s relatives.

Inner characterization

Ofodile is mostly seen through Chinaza’s perspective, but his personality shows through dialogue and the way he treats the people around him.
