The Covid-19 pandemic

The 2020 presidential election took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic in March 2020 and has caused millions of deaths worldwide with the United States being one of the most affected areas. The response to the pandemic was one of the main issues debated between the two presidential candidates in the months leading up to the election. The pandemic required several social-distancing measures to be enforced, and in-person meetings and events to be canceled or restricted.

Because of the social-distancing measures in place during the election, polling stations had a lot less available staff than usual, queues were longer, and a lot more citizens requested to vote from home instead of going to the polling station.
