Style of writing

In her Victory Speech, Kamala Harris uses a formal style of language. This helps her present an authoritative image as vice president-elect and inspire confidence. Contractions are rare, but they are occasionally used in order to make Harris appear more approachable, for example: “While I may be the first woman in this office, I won’t be the last”. In this example, Harris’s language makes her more relatable and down-to-earth, which invites women to picture themselves, their daughters, or their friends, as future women vice presidents. 

In her speech, Kamala Harris uses mainly short and middle-length sentences: 

And then, you voted. You delivered a clear message. You chose hope, unity, decency, science, and, yes, truth. You chose Joe Biden as the next president of the United States of America. Joe is a healer. A uniter. A tested and steady hand...
