“Enough with the fear of fat” by Kelli Jean Drinkwater explores attitudes towards fat people and being fat in contemporary society, focusing on the fat acceptance movement. The movement tries to change anti-fat bias in society. The first protests against anti-fat bias took place in 1967 when a protest was organized in New York.

However, the movement Drinkwater describes started becoming visible in the 1990s when it was mainly a reaction to the dieting industry. In the 2000s, the movement grew, focusing on the issue of social discrimination against overweight people. Books, protests, and online activity supported the movement.

Most criticism of the movement comes from the medical sector, with doctors drawing attention to the fact that the movement sometimes tends to ignore the health-related issues that make people fear obesity.
