Theme and message

The main theme of the story “You can’t touch me” by Blake Morrison is aggressiveness, which is explored through the issue of school bullying and the attitude of teachers towards it.

Aggressiveness

Firstly, the story explores children’s aggressive attitudes at school which lead to bullying through the character of Campbell, depicted as a trouble-maker. Campbell is always the topic of school assemblies because of his troublesome behaviour. The main events present him picking on a younger child together with other students whom he leads. Furthermore, Campbell also exhibits physical aggressiveness and resistance when Ian, the teacher, tries to take him to the headmistress’s office.
