Summary
The story begins with Norton and his daughter Laura having lunch in a bistro close to Laura’s college. Norton used to be a venture capitalist who has recently got out of prison, where he stayed because of tax evasion. Laura is a 21-year-old girl who has chosen a private college. The father-daughter conversation does not go very well; it is tense because of Laura’s reluctance to come home during the holiday. Her father tries to persuade her by reminding her of their time spent together back then when Laura was little, but she is not convinced.
