Setting

The story is set in the surroundings of the private college Laura attends. Laura knows all the places they visit, the bistro and the bar, she is the one who decides where to go and when. Norton finds himself on a strange territory, as he is not familiar with these places. Everything is strange for him, from the food they eat to Laura’s behavior. He does not recognize his daughter’s way of acting, and it is increasingly difficult for him to carry a conversation in an unknown territory.

For Norton, the bistro is a dangerous place, populated by Air Force cadets who, he believes, have inappropriate intentions with girls. Even the food in the bistro is unfamiliar: “his burger was inferior to the prison food he had become accustomed to” (ll. 25-26...
