Father-daughter relationship

This theme is maybe the most important one in the story, and it is related to the title. Norton believes that he and his daughter had a beautiful relationship when Laura was little, but she implies that her father is exaggerating and that it was not as serene as he claims. Their discussion is, in fact, the manifestation of a conflict that was put off for too long. We will discuss their relationship in the following section of the study guide.
