Intention

In the article “End all immigration controls – they’re a sign we value money more than people”, Gary Younge’s main intention is to persuade readers of the need to end immigration controls and allow free movement. One of his first arguments is present in the title, which suggests that borders do not benefit people, but economic gain. The same idea is reinforced in the subheading, when Younge mentions that “barriers are lifted for capital”. 

In order to convince his readers, Younge builds ethos by talking about Europe before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. While Western Europe prospered, Eastern Europe suffered under Soviet rule.
