The article “ ‘Dreamers’ Put Their Trust in DACA. What Now?”  by Jose Antonio Vargas was published in The New York Times on September 9th, 2017.

This was only a few days after the US President Donald Trump announced that the DACA program would be canceled over a two-year period. No new DACA applications would be allowed, but those who had valid permit could still stay in the US for as long as they are valid. At that time, Trump also encouraged the Congress to come up with another legal solution to the directive.  

The article was written in reply to those statements, as suggested by the following references: “As soon as news started leaking that President Trump, who campaigned on ending the program, would deliver on his promise, the questions came flooding in.” (ll. 31-32); “We can’t know what President Trump and Congress will do. But we do know who to trust now — the people we had to trust before. To me, that means the teachers…” (ll. 48-49).
