Rhetorical devices

Trump does not use a great number of the rhetorical devices that are typically favored by political speakers. Even when he does employ them, he tends to use them in a non-traditional way, as you can see in the section on repetition. There are a couple of examples of traditional rhetorical devices in some sections of his speech, however.

Hyperbole

Trump frequently makes exaggerated statements in his speech, especially in the very ambitious promises he makes in relation to America’s bright future:

“We're going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none. And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.” (ll. 30-31)

“We will double our growth and have the strongest economy anywhere in the world.” (ll. 38-39)

“America will no longer settle for anything less than the best.” (l. 44)
