Narrator and point of view

The events described in the short story “Cat Person” by Kristen Roupenian are told by a third-person narrator, who is an outside observer to the story.

The narrator adopts Margot’s perspective of the events and knows details about her background: “Flirting with her customers was a habit she’d picked up back when she worked as a barista, and it helped with tips”. The narrator also offers readers insight into Margot’s deepest thoughts and feelings, like in the following example: “ she thought, brightly, This is the worst life decision I have ever made!
