The story takes place over an undetermined period of time as the man tries to find a solution to stop having people avoid him on the street.

The action takes place in various locations like the Underground the advertising firm where the man works, and in the local market. The setting is relatively vague as it is not an important part of the story. This also helps to show that the story could take place in a lot of similar locations where people of color are a minority.
