Narrator and point of view

The short story “A Wrinkle in the Realm” by Ben Okri is told from the perspective of a third-person narrator. The narrator presents the main character’s struggles, while focusing on his inner thoughts. However, the narrator is objective and does not take sides. Instead, the narrator relates the story without suggesting what is right or wrong to the reader.

The narrator is omniscient and also comments on the other characters’ behavior and how they feel about the main character: “They didn’t understand why he never attended the parties to which he was invited, or why he never lingered for a drink after work” . This shows that the main character’s work colleagues find his behavior odd when he starts hiding and avoiding having people look at him.
