Characterization of the man

Outer characterization

The main character of the short story “A Wrinkle in the Realm” by Ben Okri is an unnamed man. The reader follows his journey to being accepted in society while he encounters other people who shun him, for no apparent reason.

There are a few mentions of the man’s appearance. We know that people avoid him because of his looks, and we are given a short description of how he initially sees himself:

He had a regular face, with a bit of a beard, a prominent forehead, good strong lips. His jaw was a little pointy, his ears didn’t stick out, and he had been told that he had nice eyes. His teeth were white.

His appearance seems to change in his mind, after people start rejecting him.
