Narrator and point of view
The short story “We Do Not Deal in Guilt or Blame” by Kate London has a first-person narrator who is also the main character. The narrator is looking back and talking about events that happened when she was young, while she was trying to figure out who she was.
The narrator describes the events of the story reliably. For example, she admits when her knowledge of the events she narrates is limited and only describes the things she knows: “I don’t know what he did exactly because my eyes were closed but it was a hard, sharp blow: strangely solid but also sudden, like someone throwing water” (ll. 114-115).
