Summary

The short story “We Do Not Deal in Guilt or Blame” by Kate London starts with the narrator apologizing to her boyfriend. The narrator and her boyfriend had made plans, but then the narrator decided to go out to a bar with her friends last minute. The boyfriend stops the narrator from apologizing, telling her he will not tolerate assigning guilt or blame. The narrator tells her boyfriend that her family is very good at making others feel guilty or blaming others during arguments, but he tells her that she is not like her family.

The narrator is frustrated with her life because she has no career and lives in her boyfriend’s apartment where she only gets a small shelf for her things as if she is merely a visitor. Her boyfriend just tells her not to compare or judge.
