Characters

The main character of the short story “We Do Not Deal in Guilt or Blame” by Kate London is the narrator. She is a young woman who is trying to find her way in life and dealing with an unhealthy relationship. The narrator’s development is an important aspect of the story. Although the narrator starts off as a passive character, she takes on an active role by the end of the story, deciding to make her own way in life.

The narrator’s boyfriend is also a significant character in the story. He is a drama teacher who is concerned about his image and social standing. However, because of his age and experience, he holds more power in the relationship than the narrator, and he sometimes abuses this power.
