Background information

The speech “We call BS” by X González was delivered in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which took place in February 2018. At that time, the speaker was known as Emma González.

A nineteen-year-old student at the school started shooting the staff and students inside the high school in Parkland, Florida. He was armed with a semi-automatic rifle, a type of firearm that allows for continuous fire of multiple bullets until the trigger is released. 17 people were murdered, and 17 others injured in the six minutes that the shooting took place, marking the deadliest high school shooting and the fifth deadliest school shooting in the history of the United States.
