Direct address

X González (formerly known as Emma) addresses the audience directly in the speech “We call BS”. Most notably, González addresses the politicians who fail to take action to implement gun control measures and prevent mass shootings: 

To every politician who is taking donations from the NRA, shame on you. If your money was as threatened as us, would your first thought be, how is this going to reflect on my campaign? Which should I choose? Or would you choose us, and if you answered us, will you act like it for once?

This direct address highlights González’s anger and frustration at the lack of action taken to address this issue. It also serves to arouse similar feelings of anger in González’s primary audience, which is made up of eligible voters at the gun control rally. Though they are not who González address here, the direct address to government officials serves to remind regular people of the failure of politicians to prevent mass shootings. 

González also addresses former president Donald Trump in a similar way when saying: 

Is that how much these people are worth to you, Trump? If you don’t do anything to prevent this from continuing to occur, that number of gunshot victims will go up and the number that they are worth ...
