Characters

The most important characters in “This Is All Mostly True” by Kathy Stevens are Elsie (who is both the protagonist and the narrator) and her father, her mother, and Stacie, as secondary characters. Elsie also mentions her mother’s friends, and her neighbours and their dog, Heinrich.

Elsie is a teenager preoccupied with fiction, truth, and lies, and the relationship between them. Also, she is an isolated teenager, who seems to find refuge from her illness and isolation in creating stories and in watching zombie films. Her relationship with her parents is not necessarily close, as both her mother and father seem unable to fully cope with her illness. Her best friend is Stacie, a woman who is paid to be Elsie's companion or caretaker (ll. 177-178).

You can find their characterisations in the next pages.
